Spox: Kremlin says to analyze sanctions, use mutuality rule

MOSCOW, Sep 7 (PRIME) – Russia will analyze the recent set of U.S. sanctions and will use the rule of mutuality when thinking about future steps, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

“I cannot go into detail at the moment. I can only reiterate that certainly, in the matter of sanctions, the main principle on which we rely is the principle of reciprocity. The new list will be certainly analyzed. Of course, it again by no means contributes to the development of our relations,” Peskov said.

Late on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Commerce extended the sanctions list by adding more than 80 Russian firms including electronics producers Angstrem and Micron.

Peskov said that the new sanctions are dissonant with the possibility for Russia and the U.S. to cooperate “in the sensitive areas discussed during the meeting between the two presidents,” referring to a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama on Monday.
